How do you rate a question as 'easy' or 'moderate or difficult'?
A question is rated 'easy' if the calculation involved is straight forward. A question is rated 'moderate or difficult' if it is computationally difficult or tricky or involves problem solving skill.

Will two questions rated as 'moderate or difficult' have the same degree of difficulty?
The answer is no. When a question is rated 'moderate or difficult', the question can be slightly harder than an 'easy' question or the question can be moderately difficult or the question can be very difficult. In other words, if we use the numbers 0, 1, 2 and 3 to denote the difficulty of a question. An 'easy' question will be denoted using 0 (easy). A 'moderate of difficult' will be denoted using 1 (slightly harder than an easy question), 2 (moderately difficult) or 3 (very difficult).

I created a CA1 for my child in Primary 5. How come the test contains questions on Symmetry, Tables, Measures etc?
CA1 for Primary 5 will include all the topics learned in the first 3 months of Primary 5 and all the topics learned in Primary 4. Symmetry, Tables and Measures are topics learned in Primary 4.

I created two tests for fractions, some questions are the same in the two tests. Is there any problem?
The data bank of questions is finite, so it is not unusual to see some questions repeating especially when the number of topics chosen is small. The positive aspect of repeating questions is that you can use these questions to gauge your child's progress.

Is there any way for me to create two test papers with no repeating questions?
Yes. Use the button . Questions will not be chosen randomly. You choose the questions to be included in a test.

If I enter the same question set number, will I always get the same set of questions?
The same set of questions and answers will be obtained unless we add a new batch of questions to the website.

How often do you add a new batch of questions to the website?
We add new batches of questions to the website almost daily.

Your website has more than 18000 questions. How many questions should my child attempt and are they sufficient for my child to get the best grade?
18000 questions are simply too many for any child to attempt. The number of questions to attempt depends very much on an individual child. Parents should use their discretion on this matter. The more practice your child has, the better is the chance of your child getting the best grade. Except for a few very bright children, many children can get the best grades simply by practising a large variety of questions.

Does your website have sufficient challenging or thinking problems?
About 50% of the 18000 problems are simple problems. The other 50% are either challenging or thinking problems.

I came across a website produced by other companies, why should I use your website?
    • Would you put your child's future in a website that is not produced by very experienced teachers? Everyone can get examination papers from top primary schools and produce low quality test papers. It takes very experienced teachers to select the best problems from a thick pile of examination papers to produce the highest quality test papers.
    • Would you put your child's future in a website that you cannot even find people with real names?
    • An easy problem takes about 2 minutes to produce. A high quality challenging or thinking problem takes about 1 to 2 hours (could be longer) to produce. Ask the website what percentage of their problems are challenging or thinking.

Why should I trust your books and your website?
All the questions were written by a team of experts in Mathematics and Education led by Ms Tan B M, who understands primary school mathematics. She graduated with a BSc in Mathematics and Education from the University of Malaya and a MEd from the University of Sheffield. Our advisors include Dr Chan Gin Hor (PhD in Mathematics, University of British Columbia), Dr Choo Eng Ung (PhD in Mathematics, University of British Columbia), Dr Chen Chuan Chong (PhD in Mathematics, Queen's University), and Ms Ratha A J (MA ELT, University of Warwick). Our credentials speak for themselves.

    Are your questions 'complete'?
We have included a large variety of questions for any particular topic. Nearly every imaginable question is included. Some other websites are weak in topics like solid figures, volume, nets, tessellations, symmetry, graphs, rectangles, triangles and circles where figures are required. We have created more than 15,000 figures to help children learn Mathematics. We are also very strong in topics that do not require many figures.

Will more questions be added to the website?
We add questions to the website almost daily. Questions added will reflect the latest emphasis of MOE's syllabus. Out-of-date questions are removed.

Does your website follow the MOE's syllabus?
Yes, we follow the MOE's latest syllabus. We suggest you try to create a test paper using all the topics at the Primary 6 level. Compare our paper with a recent PSLE examination paper. You will find that the paper created here feels and looks like a real PSLE examination paper. The only difference is that our paper can be printed either in black-and-white or in colour.

Any idea how difficult or how easy the questions are in the PSLE Mathematics examination papers?
According to our analysis of PSLE Mathematics examination papers using our rating system, the overall percentage of moderate and difficult questions is estimated to be about 30%.

Any idea how difficult or how easy the questions are in Mathematics examination papers from top primary schools in Singapore?
According to our analysis of Mathematics examination papers from top primary schools in Singapore and using our rating system, the overall percentage of moderate and difficult questions is estimated to be about 40% to 60%.

How do I enhance my child's chance of getting an A* in PSLE Mathematics?
Do what the top primary schools do. Let your child practise full-length assessment papers with an overall difficulty of 40% to 60% (can be created easily using math456.com) and your child's chance of getting an A* will be greatly enhanced. Weaker pupils will also benefit, instead of getting B or C, your child could get A. The logic is simple: If your child practise many papers of difficulty higher than the PSLE Mathematics examination paper, your child will find the PSLE Mathematics examination paper relatively easy.

Is it a good idea for my child to practise only full-length assessment papers based on multiple topics?
Most teachers believe that with full length assessment papers based on multiple topics, your child will learn to put ideas from different topics together and will eventually have a deeper understanding. Your child will also learn to be exam smart like knowing how to manage the time given. A word of caution: If your child has not understood many of the individual topics adequately, then full-length assessment papers based on multiple topics will probably not help. Instead your child may feel discouraged. We advise children to learn each individual topic properly first before attempting full-length assessment papers based on multiple topics.

What is an Internal Question Number?
Just like the name of a person, every question is identified by a unique Internal Question Number that will never change.
