Representatives of the Tamil people including Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) leader V. Anandasangaree met President Rajapaksa yesterday (September 8) for a special discussion regarding the situation in the North and East.

Several government Ministers had also attended the discussion held at Temple Trees which had been mainly focused upon the prevailing ‘grease devil’ menace in the Northern and Eastern parts of the island primarily in the Jaffna peninsula.

Addressing the Tamil representatives, President Mahinda Rajapaksa had pointed out that incidents involving ‘grease devils’ had not been reported for the past 45 days and that “the whole thing is a lie.”

The Tamil representatives had also brought forth the topic regarding the involvement of Army personnel and reoccurring clashes between security personnel and the public.

The President had stated that if the police cannot handle the situation then they can ask the assistance of the Army, Anandasangaree told Ada Derana today (September 9).

He further added that the protest scheduled for tomorrow has been indefinitely postponed. However, he added, if another incident involving alleged ‘grease devils’ does occur within the next 10 days they will meet the president once again.
