Bought my Pig ark but be wary whom you buy from!
« on: May 02, 2011, 11:37:42 am »
Hi,I have just this minute purchased an 8 x 6 pig ark from 1st animal arks ;D.Previously I had found Golden river farms/Golden river manufacturing Ltd not only on this site but also on the web.

I wrote to them to buy an 8 x 6 ark at only £180.00 plus £46.00 delivery-Bargain! But wait, there is a twist, though their site accepts paypal and debit cards I was told I could not use them at the moment and that I would have to transfer the money.I was suspicious so asked if I could pay cash on collection-the answer was no.Upon calling 1st Animal arks I was told "Noooooooooo! >:(" They actually have a large list of very broken hearted people-like you and I whom have also encountered them, now they are having to sue them to get their money back.I just thought I would let you all know because i wanted to economise as much as possible,However, please, please be very careful, the grass is not always greener and you may end up being hurt.

I have to say this without prejudice as may be a technical hitch, however, you can make your own minds up.
Take care all xx

Hi,

My advice would be: If a company does not accept payment by either Paypal or Debit / Credit card then take your business elsewhere. Both paypal and the card companies offer purchase protection. If you make your payment by bank transfer then you are on your own as far as protection is concerned.

I can reccomend Devon Country Pig Arks. A very nice young man who makes lovely strong arks, delivers on time and doesn't charge the earth.

Steve G,regards your advice-Just move on,is not really helpful,if you go to http://www.rivercottage.net/forum/ask/pigs/avoid-golden-river-manufacturing/p:3/#348407 you can see many people are being turned over. The reason for my post on here was to warn people here not to make the same mistake.Unfortunately,Those whom have been ripped off cannot just move on!

The same manufacturer is also the subject of a thread in the beekeepngforum. People have paid for hives and not received them.

Problem is now, that people will be very wary of trusting us pig ark manufacturers, we only ask for a deposit when ordered then the balance when delivered or collected, we build on a small scale but we give second to none customer service. We are just supplying an ark to a lady who has it appears, been ripped off.

Hope you all get recompense soon.

I am sorry for your loss OP,but my humble 2cents would be 2 sheets of weathered ply and some 3"x2" wood ,put the sheets together in an inverted V shape angle a 45degree cut at the base and nail the sheets home with 3" nails. No floor but a deep bed of hay. Our older 3 love it,plus they can lay and eat the bed at night.

Cost us about £50 all in ,might save some hastle and great way to spend a morning.

Or use discarded crates hammer board to them, cover with roofing felt.  No engineer me, leave the technical stuff to OH, but very easy he assures me.
