37 Signals products are no longer free: Basecamp, Highrise, Backpack, and Campfire

Update:

Sam below let me know the following:

We offer completely free, limited versions of all of our applications. The free plan is linked at the bottom of the pricing chart on each app’s sign-up page. All other plans come with 30-day free trials.

The link was verified…its just very tiny and in a place NOBODY would look 🙂

I admit when it comes to 37 Signals products, I have not been kept up to date. I used to use Basecamp and Backpack fairly religiously over a year ago, but haven’t used them since because of daily distractions, forgetfulness, life, etc.

However, I was still shocked to see they no longer offer a free version of any of their products. Yes, they offer a 30 day free trial, but I am referring to an actual free account for those needing basis needs. When did this happen?

I personally don’t have the $24+ a month (minimum) to fork out on services like that, when I might need only the basis necessities of what they offer. I can guarantee there is a boat load of people like myself.

I have always been a fan of their products, but sorely disappointed to find out they no longer offer a free account.

How do you feel?

    Hi Bryan,

We have developed a project management application called Teamwork Project Manager which has a totally free, no catches account allowing you to manage 2 projects with all features enabled which people may find useful as an alternative to Basecamp.

The website is http://www.teamworkpm.net and signup quick and easy from the homepage.

    Regards,
    Dan.

This was news to me as well. Especially since I have read that the Freemium model 37 had earlier is becoming more viable than a paid only as well as a try-then-buy that 37 signals is now testing.

    Sam,

Thanks for visiting and clarifying the issue. I visited the Basecamp page and sure enough there is the free version like you said.

Kind of a bummer, though, it is squeezed in that little corner with 11px font. I would be curious what the results of an eye test study would be on this page and how many actually “see” that text and the link.

Can’t say I agree with hiding it…but glad you still offer it. I will get myself signed up.

    Thanks again
