So which dried plant do you think Poirot's tisane was made from? the books make it sound like it wasn't just tea. in the 1991 episode "The Mystery of the Spanish Chest", the tisane had a clear amber color and Poirot said Miss Lemon puts in 3 teaspoons of sugar. i'd imagine Poirot liked beverages that were sickly sweet.

Poirot's tisane, its pale amber color resembles chamomile tea. Also, IIRC, Captain Hastings once described the flavor as "noxious," distinctly unpleasant taste. Chamomile tea, which my olfactory sense interprets the tea as "grass-like," not distinctly unpleasant imo but all the same not a particularly attractive aroma, either. It is plausible, given Poirot's preference for Crème de Menthe, that his tisane may also have a touch of either a mild tasting mint, or a touch of anise or licorice. Anise would be my preference, ina chamomile tisane.

I could not work out what beverage Tisane was. Never heard of it? Knew it was non alcoholic, and am still unsure! Will have to settle with herbal, but would love to know what herb?

A tisane is a generic term for a tea made from herbs, etc. it could be any herbs, but in The Adventure of the Egyptian Tomb, at least the tv series version, Hastings refers to it as chamomile tea.

In the German dubbed TV show tisane is traslated with "Gerstensud" (an extract or herbal tea made from barley). My Dictionary says:

"Tisane: A medicinal drink, originally made from barley soaked in water; a herbal tea."
