Training & Qualifications

  Associate Professor Rohan Ameratunga is an Adult and Paediatric Immunology/Allergy Specialist.
  He trained at the Auckland University’s School of Medicine and graduated with the prize for the best academic record in the clinical years.
  Subsequently he specialized in Internal Medicine and Immunopathology before training in Paediatric Immunology.
  Rohan completed a Paediatric Allergy/Immunology Fellowship at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD, USA.
  He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia and the Royal College of Pathologists (UK).
  Rohan is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the Royal College of Physicians (UK).
  He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (UK).
  He is US Board certified in Medical and Laboratory Immunology.
  He has also completed a PhD in Molecular Immunology.
  He is a Fellow of the Faculty of Science.

Career

  Rohan was the Immunologist at Starship Children's Hospital from 1991-1994.
  He is currently working at Auckland Hospital as an adult Clinical Immunologist and Immunopathologist.
  He is responsible for the Immunology Laboratory (LabPlus) at Auckland Hospital.
  Rohan works part time in private practice: Tel. 919 2615.

Teaching

  Rohan has teaching responsibilities for medical students and specialist trainees in Adult Medicine at Auckland University's School of Medicine.

Research

  Rohan has one research project. This project is on primary immune deficiency disorders, where his team is seeking to identify new genes causing common variable immune deficiency.

  He and his co-authors have recently published new diagnostic criteria for common variable immune deficiency disorders.

Publications & Conferences

  Rohan has published over 70 peer reviewed journal articles in Allergy and Immunology.
  He has been invited to speak at several international conferences in Allergy and Immunology.

Family & Hobbies

  Rohan is married and has a daughter and two cats. He enjoys tennis and fitness.
