Filipino Martial Arts Classes in NJ – Return of Kali

For a long time, Filipino Martial Arts such as Kali, Escrima (Eskrima). Arnis, Pananadata and other common names have been difficult to find instruction in New Jersey. At KRU Training, Master Ace Ramirez had first introduced this type of martial arts in Bergenfield since 1998.  After much time has past, he is bringing back this training to the public.

Pananandata is traditional Filipino Martial Arts style that was brought to the United States in 1973 by Punong Guro (Grandmaster) Amante P. Marinas, Sr. He is arguably the most puluished author on the subject of Filipino Martial Arts. Be on the lookout on a future blog on the history of Grand Master Marinas, Sr. and his accomplishments.

Although the beginner will practice initally with the Single “Yantok” (stick), one may progress to use symmetrical weapons (Two Sticks), Assymetrical (One Stick and One Knife), to Flexible (Horse Whip – Latiko) and even Projectile Weapons (Balisong Knife/Blowguns). Do not forget the the Arts such as Arnis, Eskrima, Kali and Panananadata weapons training translates easily to empty hand self defense as well!

Master Ace Ramirez is honored to have trained with Punong Guro Marinas, Sr. as a “Backyard” Student and continues today to learn from the source.
