Not the original game, no, this is the in-house remake of the popular Sierra title from 1987, Leisure Suit Larry in the land of the lounge lizards. The game was a huge hit back then, even though it made people blush like catholic schoolgirls when they went out to buy it. 4 years after its release, Sierra started giving some of their older titles a new look, and re-released them. Leisure Suit Larry was one of them. From beginning to end, this is the same game as in 1987, only with better graphics, a point and click interface instead of the old text-parser, and on top of that, the old bleepy noises it made, are now replaced with digital sound and music.

The character of this game, Larry Laffer, is the kind of guy you'd hate to see your daughter go out with. He's 40 years old, balding, and still walks around in his white polyester suit. Larry is a loser, and he knows it. That's why you're going to have to help him get rid of his virginity before midnight, or else he'll see no other option than to end his sorry life. The city of Lost Wages is full of hot women waiting for that right guy, so it should be possible. As Larry, you'll have to try your luck with several different ladies before you'll meet that right one, but that's really just part of the fun, isn't it? You have to sweet talk them into bed, offer them gifts, or do degrading things before they'll even notice you. Life isn't easy for Larry.

Leisure Suit Larry is a typical adventure game from Sierra. In its icon interface are the basic functions like 'walk' 'look' 'use' and 'talk', and on top of that, you get the fun but otherwise pretty useless 'taste' and 'unzip'. It's all you'll ever need in this game, and works like a charm. Although it makes the game a bit easier than it was with the text parser, it also gets rid of that annoying problem where you had to think of twenty different synonyms of the same word before you got it right.

Because the game now sports VGA mode, the old locations could be turned into colorful drawings, and Larry looks similar to the way he looks in part 5 of the series. A big improvement, and the cartoony mood that has been put in it, suits the game just perfectly. Animations are improved, but in some areas, they're still a bit buggy. These could've been easily fixed, but I suppose the people at Sierra weren't in the mood. Other than that, it all looks pretty good, and every new screen is a treat. Just wait till you meet all the different girls and get to see their head shots. Then you'll realise that there are some true artists over at Sierra. Music and sounds are mediocre, at best. Turning on the PC Speaker for this game is just as good. Al lowe is a brilliant artist when it comes to programming beeper sound, but his cheesy synthesizer play for this game just doesn't cut it. A shame, really.

Leisure Suit Larry isn't difficult. From all adventures from Sierra, this is definitely one of the easiest. Although the puzzles are original - and each one requires several steps to get what you want - most of the time, it's just too logical to make it the least bit difficult. There are a couple of moments where some out-of-the-box thinking is required, and this is a welcome change. If only these moments crossed your path more often, this would be a great adventure.

Strangely enough, this rarely gets annoying. That is probably because this game is FILLED with funny one-liners and cheesy sex-jokes. Some of these jokes are hard to forget, and will leave a smile on your face even after you shut down your computer. This game is most definitely for mature audiences only. There isn't a single bit of digital nudity in it, but the idea is there. Leisure Suit Larry was the first adventure game like this. It's about sex, but never gets raunchy. It's all about innuendo. This is where the game stands out. The writers of all the dialogues surely had a great time making this game, as they're using dozens of different techniques to keep the player thinking about every single line they read, only to end up laughing like an idiot. When reading between the lines, it's also quite obvious that the writers didn't take themselves very serious either. On many occasion, bad puns are made, and before you get the chance to react, the game itself will comment about the writers, and their crappy sense of humor. These little things make this game so enjoyable, and keep it fresh, even after the 20th similar joke about Larry's bad breath.

If you've never played this game, and you're looking for a laugh, then you should download it. If you've played the original version, then this game is still worthy of a look, thanks to the nice graphics and new dialogues and jokes. Overall, Leisure Suit Larry in the land of the lounge lizards is a classic, and despite its shortcomings, it should be in everyone's collection.

The series could contain some content that is not fairly suitable for people under 15 years of age.
