Various stages of tune for the 1600
engine
were available throught MkIII production. Different manifolding and carburettors imcreased the standard 1600 power output of 72bhp to around 88 bhp. The later addition of a viscous coupling fan increased power outputs throughout the Capri range. The 1600S rose to 91bhp.
The Laser Capris were produced from 1984, and replaced the entire Capri range apart from the 2.8i. Available in 1.6 and 2.0 versions the Laser offered full instrumentation and various cosmetic improvements both inside and outside like body coloured door mirrors and headlamp surrounds. Features such as four spoke RS alloy wheels and a leather trimmed steering wheel all helped the smaller engined Capris to continue to feature in Fords range until the end of production
Capri 280.
Later in MkIII production a five speed gearbox was available as an optional extra.
