Michigan Literary Magazines

Red Cedar Review, Michigan State University’s Literary Digest
CR: New Centennial Review, (Michigan State University) is devoted to comparative studies of the Americas that suggest possibilities for plural futures. We seek philosophically inflected interventions, provocations, and insurgencies that trouble the limits of the potentialities of the Americas. We also encourage more global and theoretical work with implications for the Americas.
Third Coast, a literary magazine published biannually by the Department of English at Western Michigan University.
Sulfur, founded at the California Institute of Technology in 1981, Sulfur is now based at Eastern Michigan University, edited by EMU English professor Clayton Eshleman. In book format, it apears bi-annually, and translations, artwork, essays, and a 50 page section of reviews and noticings.
Journal of Narrative Theory, a refereed, international journal published by the Department of English Languag and Literature at Eastern Michigan University, that publishes theoretically sophisticated essays that explore narrative issues from a variety of interdisciplinary, cross-cultural and critical contexts.
Michigan Quarterly Review, the University of Michigan’s flagship journal, publishing each season a collection of essays, interviews, memoirs, fiction, poetry, and book reviews.
Xylem, the Undergraduate English Association’s annually published literary magazine. Only undergraduate students at the University of Michigan are eligible for publication.
Passages North, Northern Michigan University’s literary journal, published on a biannual basis, features poetry, short fiction, interviews, and personal essays. The journal not only receives and publishes writers from across the country and around the world, but it also pays special attention to “emerging writers.”
Fourth Genre: Explorations in Nonfiction, Michigan State University’s new journal devoted to publishing notable, innovative work in nonfiction. The title reflects our intention to give nonfiction its due as a literary genre—to give writers of the fourth genre a showcase for their work and to give our readers a place to find the liveliest and most creative works in the form.

This site offers creative writing prompts that are focused towards the genres of both fiction and poetry.
Language Arts Mini-Lessons
A good prompt/lesson plan page that concerns itself mainly with K-12, with a lot of the lessons being geared towards the middle aspect of that spectrum (4th-9th grades).
