moving to morroco

I am thinking of moving to morroco (marrakesh, fez or agadir) and wanted to speak to others who have made the move from the UK. I like the idea of living in a riad and we would want to run a guest house from there. Is there anyone out there who could tell me about these cities and whether there are international schools there? What it's really like to live there? I am only in the preliminary stages of my research so I don't know anything at all!

Regards,

Dear Nicole,

I've been living in Fez for eight years and really love it. I live in the medina in a traditional house. There will be a new international school opening up here in the fall.
I would suggest coming for an extended visit before moving here. People seem to either love it or hate it. Fez is a better option for buying a house or riad these days, since Marrakech has become very expensive. I have some info about this on my site www.houseinfez.com. Also please feel free to write me an email if you have any questions.

Back to nature and basics...

Keep the ballance in your life, This is what should be the driving factors for your move..

my tanent in Marrakech moved from Sandiego California a year ago and now she lives in Marrakech, I got to see her this past jully and I had an interview with her about the steps she took to make the move..

I have lived in LOS ANGELES for 14 years and It is as hard for you as for me to think about moving..

But if you have the will you got the way...

go there for vacation, pretend you live there and see if everything is accessible to you..
for most part.. if your attentions are to move there for a slow paste life style and a healthy moral.. then it is the right place for you ..
close to europe, only 3h from london..ect..

Do it do not be afraid..

Good luck..

See you in Marrakech in one year..

I will be teaching in the University of Cadi ayad..

PS. there is an american school in marrakceh as well.

He will be looking for an apartment or house to rent for himself and three others from Leeds university. Can you suggest how he can find some suitable yet inexpensive accomodation

Hi we are also looking to move to morocco it would be good to keep in contact. There are 2 international schools, i french and i american both very good i am told. The french one is 600 euros a term. There is also a good private hospital a polyclinic although i cant seem to find out if the doctors speak english. We have just come back from Marrakech looking at Riads, we stayed in one, i would say make sure you are not too far from the main square and get a view of the mountains from your roof terrace. There are i think tax incentives for the first 5 years of trading on the money you take in foreign cash. Let me know what you find out we want to do the same but build outside the medina so we are looking for land. Good luck it would be great to have a friend out there. Emma

My wife and I are very strongly considering a move for the better life. We have an 8 month old daughter and were wanting help with some things. Where would we look for employment? I have found real estate, but don't know the best locations as far as cost of living verses employment? Is it best to sell everything here and restock when we arrive and get settled? Thank anyone for any information.

Hi Nicole

Morocco is a fantastic place to live. There are a few international schools which are mainly the American ones in Tangier and Casablanca plus a new English speaking one in Fes. There are certainly lots of places to make into fantastic guest houses in Fes but not quite the tourist tide yet. A useful site (look at the links and useful information side) is.

www.buyingmoroccanproperty.com

which is a not-for-profit general info site.

Good luck

Hope that helps.

Tim

Hi, I am planning on leaving the UK for life in marrakesh, having been there for holidays I have very fond memories of the place the people the rich smells.. I would love to hear from others that have chosen this life.
I am an art and music teacher and have also done a great deal with art and music as therapy. Do you think it would be possible for me to find work in a school or university? are their any international charity/community organisations in marrakesh that I can contact? and what is an honest price I would have to pay to buy a nice but basic apartment with room to live sleep and
make use as a studio in? and perhaps even a roof to sleep under the stars Mmmmm.

Hi people,

I am planning on moving to Marrakech this September from the US with my family. I need assistance in locating an American/English school for a 9 year old boy.
Maybe home schooling would be a possibility? Any help and/or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

We are seriously considering home schooling once we get to Morocco. But we've started giving our 9 year old French lessons in case we decide to send him to a Moroccan school.
In regards to employment, we'll be teaching English at an English Language Institute.
What part of the US do you currently live, and what part of Morocco are you going?
Maybe we can exchange information. When you respond click the SEND ME AN EMAIL link below. Talk to you soon.

Hi.
My name is farrah and i am 12 years old. I am emailing you on behalf on my dad. He would like to move out to marrakech with me but we are worried about, private hospitals? visas to live there? access to basics that would be easy to get to in england/america. Also about the american school, what language are the lessons taught in? and just basically if you could tell us any facts or figures that you would NEED to know if you were wanting to live in marrakech. Also as i was reading the date that you posted your article, it was two years ago. So do you recommend living there full time and if not then why?
Thank you so much for your time
Farrah and Peter Kearns
