The Carnegie Hall Preview Concert
Veteran AfroSolo artist and award-winning ASCAP composer-arranger Jacqueline Hairston has been invited to perform in New York City's Carnegie Hall in February 2012. This concert is a fundraiser to help support her and her Ensemble's trip to the Big City.

She will premiere WHY PEACE IS ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA by Alice Walker and Ms. Hairston. Guest include: Baritone Robert Sims, Soprano Helen Dilworth, "Kaleo" Larson  flugelhorn and Jazz drummer E.W. Wainwright.

Hairston will also conduct a chorus of fifty singers from the
San Francisco Bay Area, who will accompany her to New York, in a performance of her trademark spiritual arrangements.

Admissions:

Tickets are: General  Admission - $50 and VIP Tickets - $100
Patrons who purchase a $50 ticket can attend a pre-show wine and cheese reception.

Patrons who purchase a $100 ticket will receive VIP Treatment with several extra benefits:

The 18th annual AfroSolo Arts Festival has as its theme: UNITED IN PEACE II.  Honoring Afrosolo's theme, in addition to previewing some selected Carnegie Hall choral spirituals, Hairston is presenting a world premiere of her original song, WHY PEACE IS ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA, with celebrated writer Alice Walker's words written for Jacqui Hairston's composition. The piece, dedicated to AfroSolo Artistic Director Thomas Robert Simpson, features exquisite Chicago baritone Robert Sims, with versatile San Francisco soprano Helen Dilworth and East Bay jazzy tenor Tyrone Cosey. In addition, there is an Afro-Brazilian chant combined with an old Spiritual featuring legendary Jazz drummer E.W. Wainwright, the extraordinary Arts and Music educator. E.W. is the Founder of the African Roots of Jazz Performing Arts Academy in Oakland.

As a pianist, music educator, and conductor, Hairston's Bay Area awards include Oakland's "Light in our City" 2006 award; the 2007 Jefferson Award for Preserving Negro Spirituals; Patrons of the Arts & Humanities of the Bay Area, Inc. 2009 Award of Excellence; 2009 and 2011 Congressional Recognition Certificates for community service from Congresswoman Barbara Lee; and 2011 Induction into the Alameda County Women's Hall of Fame for Culture and Art.
