Rememberance Day

THE FINAL INSPECTION

The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

'Step forward now, you soldier,
How shall I deal with you ?
Have you always turned the other cheek ?
To My Church have you been true?'

The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
'No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.

But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll under stan d.

There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

'Step forward now, you soldier,
You've borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell.'

"Lest We Forget"

It's not very often that I speak my "personal" beliefs or opinions in public... after all... this is an online business based blog and few, if any readers have come here to read anything other than online business related content.

However, I'm compelled from time to time to break from tradition.

So..

I woke up today and eagerly sat down at my desk to go through my usual heap of emails that came in overnight, anticipating the messages from the lists that I'm subscribed to containing Remembrance Day (US = Veterans' Day) messages to warm my heart and re-affirm my belief in the prevailing goodness of humanity (that I usually receive on November 11th).

To my total dismay, ONLY ONE email contained ANYTHING about this most important day!

There were the usual adswaps, webinar notices, marketing messages and sales offers but, with all the lists I'm on (and that's a lot) only one marketer even mentioned what this Statutory Holiday is all about. (I do know it's not a stat day off for everyone).

Many marketers did not mail today and I interpret that as "a moment of silence" as is customary to observe at Remembrance Day Ceremonies.

Everyone who sent a promotional email today should have, at least, mentioned that "they" remember.. IMO

Then I took my daily trip to the grocery store and nearly fell over at the sight of ALMOST NOBODY wearing a poppy over their heart.

Shame on them! (and shame on their parents for not teaching them gratitude)

Do they not realize that they owe their freedom to the ultimate sacrifices of soldiers who fought and died.. so they didn't have to?

Has the free world already forgotten what the families of fallen and injured war veterans will NEVER forget?

As the direct descendant of a Canadian Soldier who landed on the shores of Normandy on D-Day.. I am thoroughly disgusted by the lack of "remembrance" by my fellow marketers and neigbours.

For crying out loud.. I spend most of November 11th every year wiping the tears off my face because I can't stop thinking about how unselfish my Grandad and his buddies were to offer "their lives" in exchange for "my freedom".

I for one, will NEVER forget.. and neither will my children.

To everyone who can relate with me on this, I suppose we can take solace in the fact that, how ever few of us there are now, we are not alone.

To all the Vet's reading this.. imagine me standing at attention.. saluting you.

Error "451 Message Temporarily Deferred" ..???

This article is of relevance to marketers who host their own auto-responders on their "shared server" hosting accounts -or- even if you have a dedicated server but, have more than one of your domains on it.

I went back and forth through four whitelist forms with Yahoo and their final answer was... "We cannot set your mail server on our whitelist because it hosts multiple domains".

So because I'm hosting in a multi-domain environment I still receive the "451 Message Temporarily Deferred" error.

How to help stop your mail from being deferred...

Yahoo gives some basic "do these to fix the problem" solutions:

- Remove email addresses that bounce
- Examine your retry policies
- Pay attention to the responses from our SMTP servers
- Don't send unsolicited email (duh!)
- Provide a method of unsubscribing
- Ensure your mail servers are not open relays.

It remains to be seen if these help or not when your mail server is a multi-domain server.

If you use a Yahoo email address as your "primary" email address for subscribing to other marketers' lists... you are likely not receiving all of your emails.

The bottom line is... email marketers should post a note under their opt-in forms asking their potential subscribers to not use a Yahoo email address to subscribe if they want to receive their emails.

Subscribers should use an email address from their own domain or a Gmail.com email address to subscribe to marketers' lists, to make sure they get their email.

Other email service providers (ESPs) that I've noticed being overly strict about incoming email (in an effort to reduce spam on their servers) include;

- AOL
- Hotmail
- Comcast
- Cox

There are other but, the above are the worst.

Users of these ESPs are also the most likely to have issues with getting to their digitally delivered purchases through PayPal.

9 times out of 10... when I get a customer complaining that they didn't get their download, they are using one of these 5 worst ESPs for their subscribed address and/or their PayPal email address.

Re: De-Valuation Of Resell Rights Products...

This is a copy of a reply post to one of a friend of mine's blog but, I figured the "message" was worth posting here too...

Hi Ken!

Sup dude?...

Oddly enough, I was pointed to your blog (this post in particular) by some dork who ripped me off one day in the past, and has started a finger pointing site about just this type of thing (among others).

The background on my experience with him relates to him de-valuing the product that he "stole" from me (by buying it from
himself via a 100% commission sale) then, buying the re-distribution rights on the OTO and, turning around and reselling the product "with rights" for $3, moments after I offered it for around $20 (with rights).

I promised him that I wouldn't name him publicly because he did (reluctantly) pay me the front-end price, after a few emails arguing about it back-and-forth.

I was simply reselling a resell rights product myself, in that case and, I really couldn't care less about what he chose to resell it for but, the issue I had was his "stealing" the product on the front-end by buying from himself (he obviously has 2 PayPal accounts) thus, aquiring it for less than everyone else and, being in a better position to de-value it, than everyone else, because of his lack of initial investment.

Anyway, the point of posting a reply here is to offer some advice (from my own experience) on how authors, programmers etc. can protect their works from being de-valued in this way.

Let's face facts first:

1. "Price fixing" in most Western markets is ILLEGAL. (One cannot "enforce" a minimum resell price, legally)

2. WalMart exists (and thrives), because of this.

3. If the product was really worth more... (as in; commanding a higher price and getting it when the creator sold it) it would NOT EVER be offered by the creator with rights. PERIOD.

It is a well known FACT in our industry (internet marketing) that, one only offers the resell rights to their product once they have "milked" the value of the product for all that it's worth FIRST. (or it starts out worthless because; it doesn't work, doesn't solve a universal enough problem etc.)

Thus, if the rights are available, it's already WORTHLESS (without rights).

So... what's product creator to do?...

... simple...

DON'T SELL THE RIGHT TO SELL YOUR CREATION TO ANYONE ELSE.

This is not brain surgery.

It's also very profitable... even when talking about a product that sells for only $20

I created such a product about 2 years ago and, I know that if I offered resell rights, it would have been rendered WORTHLESS within just DAYS of release.

However, I originally released it 2 years ago at $9.97 and have INCREASED it to $19.97 over that two years and, it sells
EVERYDAY for $19.97.

... How can that be?...

1. I offer generous commissions to partners and affiliates who promote it.

2. It has an extensive back-end that generates revenue.

3. It has ACTUAL value in itself, from a user's perspective.

4. I have NEVER sold the right to resell it to ANYONE.

The moral of the story is:;

Don't offer the resell rights to a product that you wouldn't want to see "on sale" at WalMart.

Cheers,

Mark Sandquist
