COVID FAQ:

1. My child tested COVID+.  Do I need to make an appointment now?

No, you do not need to make an appointment if you tested + at home with a home test.  Treat symptoms supportively and symptomatically.  There are no prescription medications for COVID treatment in most patients.  If your child is lethargic, having fever for more than 5 days, rapidly worsening, short of breath or having increased work of breathing, seek medical attention.

2. Do we follow 10 day quarantine or 5 day quarantine, some schools are doing the 5 day quarantine?

We recommend CDC guidelines, which are updated frequently. However, we cannot control the guidelines of individual workplaces, schools or ISDs.  Quarantine time is dependent on testing positive or negative, exposure, guidelines, ability to strictly mask, symptoms resolution,  and vaccination status.

3. Is there a medication to treat covid now?

For most cases of COVID, there is no specific medication. There are cases that have restrictive access to certain medications for very sick or extenuating circumstances.

4. Do we need to retest for a negative result to end quarantine and return to school or daycare?

We do not recommend retesting for negative result.  We cannot control the guidelines of your workplace, school, or daycare.

5. We need letter to go back to athletics and just finished quarantine, is an appointment needed or not for a clearance letter?

If your child needs to be cleared for athletics, they will need a cardiac clearance / sports participation physical exam prior to receiving a clearance letter. Please call to make an appointment.

6. I have symptoms or I have been exposed, what should I do?

Please start by taking the Pecan Tree Pediatrics COVID Self Assessment Tool below.

You may experience longer than normal wait times when calling our office.  We are seeing a greater than normal number of sick children due to COVID and other illnesses; and many of our staff is sick, are out taking care of their sick family members, or have been exposed to COVID and need to isolate.

We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Due to increasing volumes of sick patients from COVID and other viruses causing respiratory and gastrointestinal illness, we are experiencing extremely high volume on our phones and in clinic.  We ask for your patience during these unprecedented times.  You may experience longer than normal wait times.

Despite the decrease in staff working in clinic due to COVID illness and exposures, our physicians and staff are doing our best to continue to provide the level of care that our patients and their families expect.  However, we do need to prioritize and triage our sicker patients. We also need to ensure the wellness and safety of physicians and staff who are working very hard despite being short staffed with increased patient care needs. There will be times that we will refer patients to urgent care or emergency rooms due to limited resources from the currently ongoing impact of the COVID Delta Variant.

Please do not call for results if it has been less than one week since the labs were collected and do not leave multiple messages.  We will respond as soon as we can. We appreciate every single one of you who understands and helps us accommodate care for those in need and we will continue to strive to address all concerns.
