Vedic Astrology - Overview of Indian Astrology (Hindu Astrology)

Vedic astrology which is also know Indian Astrology (Hindu Astrology) deals with planetary motions and their positions in a particular time period. The origin of the Vedic astrology can be traced back to thousands of years. It was all about movement of the planets in relation with the stars in determining an individual’s destiny as well. According to the Vedic astrology there are 27 constellations in total. 9 planets, 12 houses and the mentioned 12 moon signs. The birth chart is made depending on the individual's birth date and time & place ofbirth. The signs and planets represented on our birth chart is referred as the horoscope. Vedic astrology is simply the proper interpretation of these arrangements as it is applied to humans or entities in particular. Vedic Astrology or Jyotish vidya comes in three main branches:

• Siddhanta or the application of the basic of astronomy in astrology.

• Samhita or mundane astrology refers to predicting important events that influence a lot of people at a time like major natural disasters, wars, political events, financial positions, animals, omen etc

• Hora also known as predictive astrology, has some subgroups like:

The comparison in between the Vedic astrology and western modes of astrology is that it uses sidereal zodiac whereas the latter is based on tropic zodiac. Sidereal zodiac is the one where the stars are fixed while the planets are considered to be moving around. Tropic zodiac on the other hand is the one in which the planetary motions around the Sun’s position during the period of the spring equinox. With the gradual evolution of the equinoxes the time differences in between the time periods have slowly gotten noticeable. Synchronically, both the systems are quiet similar to each other.
