I've been using this brad nailer for a multitude of projects and it is really nice (over 1000 brads so far). I've used about every size brad it can carry and have had no problems with the tool itself. Loading is easy and quick and the swtch from bump to trigger is convenient. One time I struck a nail head and jammed a Brad in this tool. Clearing the jam was simple and quick with no tools required to get it done! It slowed me down less than a minute it figure out how to clear the jam....also didn' need the book to figure it out!! The only thing I find difficult with the tool is the depth adjustment, it's a little difficult to turn if you have really big fingers. Oh yeah, the case it comes with is nice and there's room to store some small boxes of Brads in it too.
Overall I think Hitachi put a lot of thought into the design of this Brad Nailer with the user in mind and I highly recommend this tool.
NOTE: I was raised to be a Craftsman guy but Hitachi is winning me over...this is the third Hitachi tool I've bought and the Quality, design and warranty you get for the price is tough to beat....food for thought Craftsman your tools aint what they used to be and you can'l live on a name forever!.........I'm the generation who has a son to teach and I'm not recommending Craftsman to him (most recently I bought a Craftsman dozer/snowplow blade for my craftsman lawn tractor and the blade lift welds broke the first time using it to move snow; I couldn't even drive the tractor till I removed the plow. That is not the quality I want to depend on and was the final straw that broke this camels back with Craftsman. Even my dad gave up on them and sold his craftsman tractor for a John Deere.
Nails have been easy to find. I know some larger brads are hard to find but the regular abundant ones are at most the big box stores and good to use. I have only shot hitachi's and they have worked fine.
This tool came reconditioned and I was happy with how it looked. It wasn't really messed up or bad looking, but again remember we don't get this for looks. It came with a nice little case for it and includes some eye protection goggles that I liked. I know a lot of folks hate them but man they were good for me, nice fit.
I do not regret this buy, it has been a good gun so far. If you will be using this here or there, this gun is ok.
The magazine release is plastic, which I was worried about, but has held up just fine. I don't know if it would stand up to everyday abuse but for diy/hobbiest use it seems fine. My Porter-Cable finish nailer has a nicer metal magazine release (actually the entire magazine is metal whereas the Hitachi brad nailer magazine is mostly plastic) but it is also heavier and more expensive.
The drive depth adjustment works fairly well and is easy to set. The window to check the amount of brads is small and not the easiest to see but once you get used to it it's simple enough to check and reload before you start firing blanks.
The safety is not located directly over where the brads come out, which can be a little awkward when working with small pieces that have a profile or when you're trying to fire a brad close to the edge of a workpiece. It's not a deal breaker but it does require some thought from time to time. I've never used a brad nailed before so for all I know they're all this way but I prefers the safety location on my finish nailed.
Overall this has been a fine tool and hard to beat for the price.
