Barack Obama, Bill Clinton and some big names from the entertainment world have delivered a rousing New York embrace of President Joe Biden at a campaign fundraiser that hauled in a record-setting $25 million for the incumbent's reelection campaign. The mood at Radio City Music Hall on Thursday night was electric as Obama said he was offering a “positive case” for someone who's been an outstanding president. Clinton urged people to “stay with what works” in this election. Democrat Biden has a significant fundraising advantage over Republican rival Donald Trump, with more than four times as much cash on hand at the end of February.

A Republican state lawmaker in Michigan made claims on social media Wednesday that buses at a Detroit airport carrying college basketball players were shuttling undocumented immigrants  into the city. Michigan state House Rep. Matt Maddock said the buses were carrying “illegal invaders” getting off of a plane. The Wayne County Airport Authority said in a statement four college basketball teams were arriving that night at the airport and the buses were carrying “the basketball teams and their respective staffs.” Maddock is among the most conservative members in the Michigan Legislature. His wife is one of 15 Republicans charged for acting as fake electors for then-President Donald Trump in 2020.

Donald Trump has attended the wake of a New York City police officer gunned down in the line of duty. The former president and presumptive Republican presidential nominee called for “law and order' Thursday at the visitation on Long Island for Officer Jonathan Diller, who was fatally shot during a traffic stop days earlier. Trump has made crime a focus of his third White House campaign and said, "We've got to toughen it up." His campaign sought to contrast his visit with President Joe Biden, who is also in New York for a celebrity-studded fundraising extravaganza with Democratic former Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.

The workers lost in the Baltimore bridge collapse all hailed from Mexico or Central America before they settled in the Maryland area. Police managed to close bridge traffic seconds before a cargo ship slammed into one of the Francis Scott Key Bridge’s supports early Tuesday. The span fell into the frigid Patapsco River. There wasn’t time for a maintenance crew filling potholes on the span to get to safety. At least eight people fell into the water and two were rescued. Two bodies were recovered Wednesday. Four remained missing and were presumed dead. They hailed from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras.

Donald Trump has lashed out at the New York judge who put him under a gag order that bars him from commenting publicly about witnesses, prosecutors, court staff and jurors in his upcoming hush-money criminal trial. Trump posted on social media Wednesday that the gag order was “illegal” and that Judge Juan M. Merchan was depriving him of his free speech rights. The former president also lambasted the judge’s daughter, claiming she had posted a photo illustration of Trump behind bars. A court system spokesperson later said the social media account didn't belong to the judge's daughter. The gag order does not bar comments about Merchan or his family.

Investigators are collecting evidence from the cargo ship that plowed into Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge and caused its collapse. Meanwhile in the waters below, divers searched Wednesday through twisted metal for six construction workers who plunged into the harbor and were feared dead. The bodies of two men were found. The investigation picked up speed as the Baltimore region reeled from the sudden loss of a major transportation link that’s part of the highway loop around the city. The disaster also closed the port that is vital to the city’s shipping industry. Officials with the National Transportation Safety Board boarded the ship and planned to recover information from its electronics and paperwork.
