Welcome

At Samaritan Health and Living Center we know that everyone is capable of growing stronger, happier, and healthier in their relationships. We are a not-for-profit agency focusing on the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. Founded in 1972 by a physician, Burton Kintner, MD and a pastor, Rev. R. J. Ross, the Samaritan Center offers a deeply respectful approach to counseling. While we are very sensitive to issues of faith, it is our policy to discuss faith issues only at the initiation of the client and we are open to those discussions irrespective of faith tradition. In addition, through the generous gifts of our donors, we are able to offer help to many individuals who might not otherwise be able to afford our services, with fee assistance.

We believe counseling can foster a sense of inner safety which allows clients to reflect on the patterns in their lives which may have limited their well-being. All of us grow up with coping strategies we've adopted to protect ourselves from perceived harm, sometimes without even realizing it. Those coping strategies may well have served us in the past, but often hinder us in our present circumstances. The Samaritan Center’s focus is on relationships, helping to sort out what works and what might not be working so well in the important relationships in one's life. The gifted therapists who work at the Samaritan Center are dedicated to helping clients strengthen their positive relationship skills and release the patterns that have become problematic. Our therapists are trained in a number of disciplines, including Clinical Psychology, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Pastoral Counseling, with medical consultation. All are dedicated to ongoing training to offer the most powerful therapeutic tools to facilitate healing for their clients. Several of these powerful tools are Group Psychotherapy, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Play Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness Therapy, and CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy). In addition to our main location, currently at, 311 W. High St. in downtown Elkhart, we offer services at several satellite locations throughout Elkhart County through partnerships with various churches in the area.

OUR MISSION:

To be an expression of the love of God through a ministry of helping people under stress.
