Glycomics & Glycobiology Products

Glycomix LtdGlycomix is focussed on this important class of glycopolymers. Examples of these being the biologically active oligosaccharides, seaweed polysaccharides such as agar and fucoidan, the protein-associated glycans such as Heparin and Chondroitin and the N- and O- linked oligosaccharides attached to glycoproteins.

Glycomix offers in depth consultancy, laboratory services and a number of speciality Glycobiology products for Research and Development in the biotech and pharmaceutical sectors.

.

It has long been known that carbohydrates are fundamental components of all living things, providing both strength and structure from cellulose and chitin, and energy from starch and glycogen. However, some of the more subtle properties of carbohydrates, such as their roles in blood group differentiation and immunoprotective benefits to infants from the sugars in human milk have been known and studied for many years.

More recently, many of the key biochemical and biological functionalities of both low and high molecular weight carbohydrate structures have been revealed, examples being in cell recognitsion, mediated by glycosylation, and in cancer metastisis where altered surface carbohydrates on glycoproteins appear to play an important part. Most carbohydrates in nature occur as linked sugars of one sort or another from di, tri and oligosaccharides to the high molecular weight polysaccharides and glycosaminoglycans.

Polysaccharide catalogue and toolbox
We released a new handbook containing a comprehensive overview of over 200 polysaccharides and a section on analytical techniques used in glycochemistry. The toolbox was prepared by Dr Chris Lawson, a polysaccharide specialist with over 50 years of experience in carbohydrate chemistry.
You can get a free copy or read more about the handbook contents on the Carbosynth website.
