Stroud Tackle is the oldest San Diego fly shop, serving the San Diego angling community since October 1970. We are located just east of Mission Bay and only a few minutes from downtown San Diego as well as neighboring communities such a La Jolla, Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, Imperial Beach, Coronado, National City, Chula Vista, Clairemont Mesa,  Mira Mesa, Serra Mesa, Tierrasanta, La Mesa, and El Cajon. We stock a broad inventory of freshwater and saltwater fly fishing rods, reels, lines, flies, fly tying tools, fly tying materials, and fly fishing accessories to meet your fly angling needs in Southern California, the Eastern Sierra Nevada, and beyond. The products in stock include Temple Fork Outfitters (TFO) and Redington fly rods and fly reels, Lamson and Galvan fly reels,  Rio fly lines, leaders, and tippet, and a broad range of fly tying materials and tools sourced from Hareline Dubbin, Wapsi, Dr. Slick, Peak, and Renzetti.  We have the largest selection of fly tying materials in San Diego.  For those getting started with fly fishing with a matched and balanced setup we have Redington Wrangler Kit Combos in 5, 6 ,7, and 8 weight 9 foot  four section rod setups.  These combos include the updated (for 2023)  Crosswater reel,  Wrangler fly rod,  Rio Mainstream floating fly line, fly line backing, leader, and a case the hold the rod with the reel mounted and result in a savings of about $60 compared to purchasing the components separately.  We also stock the Redington Original Kit Combo in the 5 weight 9 foot 4 section model.  This combo has the same reel, line, and rod case as the Wrangler combo but costs 20% less with a more limited one year warranty against defects.

San Diego County offers year round freshwater and saltwater fly fishing opportunities for multiple species whether angling afoot or from on the water and is about a six hour drive from the trout waters of the Eastern Sierra Nevada.  Many adventurous anglers travel by road to Baja California to fish the beaches and estuaries on the coasts of the Pacific Ocean and Sea of Cortez. From much of the city of San Diego and surrounding cities and communities it is possible to be fly fishing for largemouth bass, bluegill, carp, or saltwater species within 30 minutes.  Even trout are available in local lakes during fall and winter months.
