Measles Update

The highly contagious and highly dangerous virus, Measles is no longer a theoretical issue. Measles cases have already doubled in the US this year and multiple cases have been diagnosed in our metro area. Nearly all cases have occurred in unvaccinated individuals. Cases are typically linked to people who have traveled abroad. But vaccine skepticism and communities with low vaccination rates have also contributed to the spike.

Why is Measles a problem?

Most cases are mild, but sometimes it can lead to brain swelling, pneumonia and death. Measles is also one of the most highly contagious airborne viruses on the planet, with 90% of non-immune individuals becoming ill if in a room with an infected individual. Partial vaccination status, with one vaccine dose, also leaves people vulnerable.

Our Policy:

As a matter of public health and the safety of your children, SPA requires all of our patients adhere to the vaccine schedule recommended by the AAP and CDC. All children will receive two doses of the measles vaccine: the first dose at 12 to 15 months of age and a second dose at 4 to 6 years old. This two-dose series will confer 96% immunity.

What The End Of The Pandemic Means To Our Families

The end of the COVID-19 pandemic is bringing a a sense of relief and emotional well-being to our families . This is particularly true as the constant fear of infection and the burden of protective measures reduces. The normalizing of our lives is positively impacting the mental health of family members, particularly children and adolescents, who have faced disrupted routines, social isolation, and increased stress during the pandemic. We have learned many lessons, particularly about infectious disease, the power of vaccination, and the resilience of our society. Stamford Pediatrics will carry these lessons forward to positively impact our patients physical and mental health. Additionally we will continue to implement common sense safety precautions in our office to keep our patients and staff healthy.

To protect the health and safety of our patients and staff we cannot accommodate walk-ins at any time.

Masks are now optional but encouraged for all sick children and caregivers.

Exam rooms are cleaned between each visit.

Staff will wear masks at their own discretion.
