ABOUT VIRTUAL AVIATION COLLEGE

Virtual Aviation College (VAC) was established in 2000 to provide e-learning solutions for the aviation industry, in addition to traditional training delivery.

VAC is a leader in developing e-learning modules for the air transport sectors, using modern rapid authoring software tools that permit cost-effective updates and customisation.

The company offers other services, including the development of training plans, training needs analyses and the provision of advice on the hosting of e-learning courses on Learning Management Systems.

CLIENTS AND COURSES

The company has provided client specific training courses to major airlines, international airports, civil aviation authorities, ground handling companies and universities.

Simon Walker is a faculty member of Airport Council International’s Global Training Hub, facilitating one of the elective modules on the ACI/ICAO AMPAP initiative.

Training Needs Analyses and Training Plans have been developed for airlines and airports, with a specific focus on the requirements for Operational Readiness for new airports.

E-learning courses have included regulated topics such as Safety Management Systems, Dangerous Goods Awareness and Security Awareness in addition to ramp safety and SOP compliance modules. These have been developed for airports, ground handling companies, aviation training colleges and a Head of State Flight Department.

E-LEARNING

VAC works with clients to develop new courses that utilise the strengths of e-learning as a training medium and to convert existing training material and manuals.

The use of e-learning, as a component within a blended training portfolio, offers the following benefits:

  • Provides engaging, self-paced learning
  • Provides consistency of training delivery
  • Maintains the currency of training material through updates
  • Allows training to take place at any time, creating equable access for all employees
  • Replaces expensive assets such as classrooms and instructors
  • Minimises time out of the workplace
  • Allows for multiple language options for multi-national companies and locations
  • Provides for a centralised database of training activity

FACILITATED TRAINING

VAC has over twenty years’ experience of developing and delivering facilitated training sessions. These typically range from two days to five days, provided to airlines, airports, regulatory authorities and aviation universities.

The company’s focus is on airline management subjects and the aviation regulatory environment. These short courses are designed to complement internal training modules and processes to provide a comprehensive overview of the challenges faced in today’s business. Case studies of particular relevance to individual clients can be produced as required.

VAC has developed a proprietary airline business simulation programme – the Airline Business Challenge – that is used as an integral part of many classroom-based training courses for airlines and airports. This is used to highlight the complexities of airline decisions within a competitive environment, and is a powerful team-building resource.
