Intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring is a real time medical testing performed to evaluate the brain, spinal cord and nervous system during surgery to reduce the risk of complications.

Neurodiagnostic TEX is an independent diagnostic testing facility which has been inspected and approved by Medicare to provide neurodiagnostic testing. We are one of the first, locally owned and operated neurodiagnostic/intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring companies in Texas. One of the advantages of being locally staffed is that we have technologists on call and readily available 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year. We provide service in the North Central and East Texas area. All of our staff technologists are boarded in neurodiagnostics and/or certified in Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring (CNIM). We are committed to providing the highest quality of service and utilize updated, state of the art equipment. Physicians supervise the testing live and interpret the data in real time. Our practice meets and exceeds guidelines set forth by all governmental agencies including JCAHO, HIPAA and Medicare.

 Clinical testing: Electroencephalography (EEG)

EEG testing records the electrical activity of the brain. This testing can help diagnose seizure disorders and many other neurological disorders. It can also determine the negative effects of stroke, trauma and other disease processes affecting the brain. EEG can also be monitored in surgery to assure the brain is receiving adequate blood flow and oxygen during surgical procedures. It can also guide surgeons in their decision making during epilepsy surgery.

Intraoperative Testing

Neurophysiologic Intra-operative Monitoring

Neurophysiologic intraoperative monitoring provides live time information about the functional integrity of the central nervous system during surgical procedures. IONM can provide early warning of compromised patients before permanent damage occurs. Various testing can also be useful to localize and identify neuronal structures that have been impaired/displaced by trauma, bleeding or tumors. Surgeries that that utilize intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring include: neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, vascular surgery, cardiac surgery, ENT surgery. More recently, a variety of general surgeries such as thyroidectomies have been added as monitored procedures as well.

Clinical testing: Evoked Potential Testing (EP)

Evoked potential tests are those that test the nerves and spinal cord. These tests are often times performed in conjunction with imaging studies. The imaging studies take a picture and EPs show the physiological function of these structures. Often times pathology not seen on imaging studies will be revealed with EPs. Indications would include multiple sclerosis, hearing/vision screening in infants and emotional vs. physical trauma. Testing modalities include visual evoked potentials (VER), brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BSER) and somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEP). These studies can also be performed in surgery to protect structures at risk during surgical procedures.
