Will Day's Benzo Recovery

I have decided to take this site down for now and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. While I am still concerned about the over-prescribing of benzodiazepines, I have moved away from the benzo recovery work in recent years so am unable to keep this site current. My concern is that material on Will Day's Benzo Recovery site may now be out of date, or in some ways inaccurate. Like all of us I am always learning and adjusting and I have moderated my opinion on certain matters, and may no longer stand by some of the opinions I expressed on the site. I can no longer endorse information from my site which has been reproduced on other websites or has been copied for private use; Please disregard any such material and seek current, reliable and balanced information about these medicines from other sources.

There are other benzo recovery sites on the net providing information, personal stories and support. Amongst them:

www.benzosupport.org www.benzo.org.uk www.drregpeart.org

I cannot wholly endorse the material on these sites - approach all benzo sites on the net with care, there is all sorts of information out there and we must be guided by our common-sense.

Like so many of us in the benzo recovery field I have largely learnt on the job. We taught ourselves to undertake the research project with the Benzo Research Group in the early 1990s with the support of the Women's Health Resource Collective in North Carlton and Australia's Consumers Health Forum. I learnt the ropes as a support group facilitator and phone support worker with Tranx in Melbourne and years later trained as a phone counsellor with Mens Line Australia. My work in Sydney with the benzo info-exchange and resource centre (made possible through the generosity of long-time supporter of the cause Barry Hoffman) sprang from a keen desire to learn, share and foster change. And, having worked as an actor and drama tutor as a young man, benzo community education work came naturally.

I would like to express my gratitude to all the marvellous benzo workers and benzo recoverers who have taught me, assisted and advised me along the way. In particular I would like to thank Gwenda Cannard, Jo Marston and all those at Reconnexion (formerly Tranx Australia), Di Russell and Di Porrit and all the courageous people who patiently told us their personal stories years ago, Shirley Trickett, Barry Hoffman, Geraldine Burns, Anthea Young and all those who have used this site and offered their support and encouragement.

Wishing you well,

Will Day
