One Day Technical Symposium at the A.V. Fairgrounds, Wed. March 4, 2020

SAMPE high desert chapter is hosting a one day technical symposium on March 4, 2020 with manufacturers of composites and related materials displaying their current and new products. Guest speakers will be presenting a variety of exciting technical papers throughout the day. Snacks and lunch will be served on a complementary basis for symposium attendees. Also, entrance to the Symposium is complementary.


Location: Antelope Valley Fairgrounds, Hunters Pavilion

SPEAKER: A.J. Kapadia, Sales Engineer, Hexcel Corporation

A.J. has recently joined the Hexcel Americas Aerospace Sales and Marketing Team. He has over 12 years’ experience in business development for reinforcements, and since 2001 has held a variety of sales and operations positions at Hexcel. In his most recent role, A.J. was responsible for new business development for Hexcel’s Industrial Business Unit.

SPEAKER: Carl Haeger and Jonathan Weldon, DuPont Electronics Materials

Carl R. Haeger, Research and Design Planner, DuPont Electronics Materials R&D:

Carl has over 20 years in various films/laminates manufacturing technical, management and supply chain positions within the DuPont Kapton® and Pyralux® business, including over 8 years developing new films/laminated products and applications within R&D. Carl received his in BS Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University in 1988, and his MBA from The Ohio State University 2004.

Jonathan A. Weldon has recently joined DuPont as a Research Investigator. Jon is developing applications and technology for Novel Kapton® films as well as providing RF applications support for Pyralux laminates. Jonathan received his BS in Electrical Engineering from Texas Christian University in 2006 and his MS in Electrical Engineering from Wright State University in 2010.  Jon has a broad background as an RF Applications Engineer.

Topic:  An Overview of Oxide Ceramic Matrix Composites

SPEAKER: Barrett Jackson

Mr. Jackson has over 30 years of experience with advanced ceramic materials.  The past 15 years has been devoted to oxide ceramic matric composites (CMC).  He has worked on programs that matured from R&D test laminates to production components, developing materials and processes to meet the challenges of fabricating intricate CMC parts.  He was part of the team that fabricated the largest CMC parts to be flight tested – the Boeing nozzle and center-body for the CLEEN program.  

Currently Mr. Jackson is part of the production team for the GE Passport engine CMC exhaust components at Composites Horizons.  Additionally he continues to work on developing new oxide CMC materials and processes to meet future challenges.
