ABOUT US

Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue (MCSO SAR) is a volunteer organization whose objective is to serve the community by searching for and rescuing lost or injured persons in wilderness or urban areas, assist with evacuations during emergencies, assisting law enforcement with evidence searches, and educating the public.

MCSO SAR supports young adults by fostering a sense of community service, developing self-confidence, self-reliance and leadership skills.

Comprised of both youth and adult members, with a focus on youth leadership, our team embodies the spirit of service and drive to make a difference in the lives of others. Our inspiring volunteers are an invaluable asset, and play a vital role to build stronger bonds between the community, and the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.

Fostering these bonds between the community and law enforcement is a vital aspect of building trust, understanding, and collaboration. Our organization creates a positive environment for both youth and adults to interact with, and work alongside law enforcement, and lays the foundation for safer, and more connected communities. These activities help break down barriers, promote positive interactions, and allow young people to see law enforcement officers as approachable mentors and role models.

WHAT WE DO

As a Search and Rescue organization, we are called to perform four different types of searches: trail searches, open grid searches, closed grid searches, and evidence searches. Trail or grid searches for missing persons may occur anytime of day, any day of the year, in any weather condition. These often require a quick response by teams of trained and well-equipped searchers. Evidence searches involve a thorough examination of an area currently under investigation by law enforcement. MCSO SAR is known throughout the Pacific Northwest as an able and effective evidence searching team, often responsible for recovering critical evidence pieces.
